Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Exploits Valley High

Bringing students and innovative thinking together.

Bounce Health Innovation

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor and The EXCITE Corporation partnered with Bounce Health Innovation for a mini-hackathon for high school students at Exploits Valley High School on Saturday, September 22, 2018. This was the first event of its kind at a high school level.

This opportunity was exciting for the students, who showed up early on a Saturday morning to learn how to build medical devices. In one day, these students learned basic code, how to control biosensors to study blood pressure, ecg, and pulmonary function, as well as presenting research results to the group.

The Bounce team brought knowledge, mentorship, and enthusiasm for health innovation. We’re excited to work with them again in future and will continue to support joint projects in Grand Falls-Windsor  growing the medical technology sector and advancing health innovation in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Brilliant Labs

On Monday, November 19, the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI) in partnership with Excite Corporation, Brilliant Labs and Exploits Valley High School hosted a NATI Innovation Day in Grand Falls-Windsor.

This event provided opportunities for students to take part in a session called “Coding and Making for a Cause” where they interacted with technology including microbits, 3D printers, robots and other tools to inspire creative and innovative problem-solving.

Following the session, staff, parents and participating students were invited to learn more about opportunities for innovation at a networking event
